Patrick O'Callaghan

Patrick O'Callaghan is the President and Managing Partner of Patrick O'Callaghan & Associates, a firm specializing in Board effectiveness and director recruitment in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Since 1992, Patrick O'Callaghan & Associates has provided Board governance advice to organizations in a wide range of industries throughout Canada, including assignments with federal and provincial crown corporations. Current consulting services include:

  • Advisory Boards and Board Chairs on current governance issues and challenges.
  • Undertaking Board, Board Chair, Committee, Committee Chair, and individual director performance evaluations with a focus on practical methodology and actionable results.
  • Defining and clarifying Board roles and responsibilities that focus on optimizing the effectiveness of the Board.
  • Providing director recruitment and board composition strategy advice (in partnership with Korn/Ferry International).

Patrick O'Callaghan & Associates has completed hundreds of Board governance assignments throughout Canada and the United States. The firm, in partnership with Korn/Ferry International, annually produces Canada's most comprehensive governance review Corporate Board Governance and Director Compensation in Canada - A Review Patrick is the principle author of the report and has been since 1992.

Patrick O'Callaghan is a frequent speaker and seminar leader on corporate governance issues. He has first-hand experience as a director of public and private Canadian corporations and several not-for-profit organizations. He recently retired as a member of the Directors Advisory Group of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. Currently, Mr. O'Callaghan is Board Chair of Women On Board and a member of the Advisory Committee on Senior Level Retention and Compensation for the Treasury Board of Canada.

Until 1992, Mr. O'Callaghan was the President and Managing Partner of The Caldwell Partners International, a Canadian executive search firm, where he spent fourteen years assisting Boards of Directors with senior executive search assignments and organization, compensation and succession issues.

Mr. O'Callaghan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia, spent two years with CUSO in Zambia, and completed his Master of Business Administration at the University of Western Ontario. He held sales and management positions with Xerox of Canada prior to joining The Caldwell Partners in 1978.
